The clean up done recently has helped but there is so much more that can be accomplished with the right people involved. I have dueced every hole on this course so the potential great round is out there but seems very unlikely. Who is going to help this course become more inviting for pros and tournaments :?:

Me! We need a championship course in the area! I think we could really utilize the area and elevation. Could probably design it something like Camden #2

I would like ten or so of us to get together and discuss options. Then come up with a layout and a proposal for the city.

You could try changing shaver, but honestly does it have the space to make it a championship course? One good thing about it is that it's the quickest course to play in the area, it gives you 18 holes that you can play in less then an hour.

Just puting that out there. I like the course, and alot of other people do. Maybe the way to go about this is to propose the city in letting us build a completely new course.

I keep wondering this. Could Cedar Rapids host worlds? I haven't played shaver enough to know if the course is complete crap or just needs to be fine tuned.

If we got Shaver into a better park I think the CR area could host worlds. Now if it happens that is another thing.

Is it hard to get the parks board to buy off on cutting down some trees to make the course better? Anyway lets keep the discusion up and hopefully we get some fire under our butts and change something.

Agreed.
Even if CR had world class courses, it doesn't have a large dedicated group structrure to support an event like worlds.
Not to mention city support

As far as Shaver goes, I believe it can be tweaked in it's present form to make it better. Making it a world class course could be a stretch.
It would take a major design change and tons of man hours.
Which comes back to dedicated group structure and city support.

I wouldn't go as far as to say absolutely, but any time in the near future.

See Budhyzer's post about no support group would be the biggest factor.

Plus, who is going to volunteer to run Worlds and not play??

There is a dedicated group of disc golfers amongst the corridor area, just no one willing to stand up to have more events. And the city is hard to negotiate with.

The wheels were turing last night on the Worlds thing.
IF a group effort was formed, say a "Corridor Disc Gof Club", which would consist of possibly CR, IC, the Wildcat Crew, Puffins and maybe Waterloo/CF, I could take away the absolutely not talk from the subject.
More could get accomplished by separating into groups under one "governing body." (CDGC)
It would take a couple three or more individuals to spearhead such a venture.
(Peyton - Stibs) :?:

A club can get more accomplished than a league, which is all we've really ever had around these parts.
And, it would take a lot of work on the courses, but.....

Discuss amongst yourselves.

I was thinking the same thing. It would allow for so much more to happen.

This is the hardest part of running the Challenge ....... It's hard to get more than 4 people that are willing to give up playing to help make it a success.

Another question would be is: Are we talking Pro or Am worlds? If it is not combined this area could handle it better. I still don't think we have the caliber of courses here yet and there aren't many good places left to put new ones. 2 or 3 more would be nice though.

we have wildcat, penisula, and maybe legion and sugar bottom that could be considered "championship" type courses. I agree with the space issue, and do feel that it would be nice to have 2-3 more courses.
