High Water Updates

Postby Budhyzer 17696 » Tue Jun 10, 2008 8:06 am

I was talking to a local Urbanaite that I work with yesterday.
He said back in 1993 the water was up to the bathroom.
Not the new one on the east edge but the one up by #18 tee pad.
If this is true, I would think hole #1 would be totally under water.
I'll believe it when I see it.

That can't be true. This one will be higher and will only flood the lower sites. The creek could back up to #1 though. I'd like to walk in to see. Maybe Crager knows who owns the field by the quarry.

WOW,
Ode and I took a canoe to the course at 4:30 pm we landed it at the campsite at the curve in the road. Walked to the course, the creek was running downstream like normal, sat at # 1 tee pad picnic table , you wouldnt have known there was a flood going on . Course has no water damage
We got back in the canoe and went up the creek we got to almost the creek that comes down # 8 , a log jam was in the way,
You could see where the water was at an influx , not going up or downstream
WAY COOL
What was really weird there were no skeeters or gnats.
When we got back to my vehicle and loaded up the water was up quite a bit had to go through about 2 feet of water by the bridge near the highway
Left just in time around 7:30.
I will give an update in the morning.
Steve , we can walk down from my neighbors farm through the woods to the course

I'll be ready Friday afternoon. I'd say based on where you said the creek was backing up that if the river comes up to the level it's supposed to that some water will back up past the walk bridge. It will at least fill the creek basin.

I had to evacuate my house yesterday.
I got home from work at 4:00 only to find my street under water.
It wasn't quite up to the house yet.
The national guard guy told me to get what I could and get out.
I put everything I could upstairs and everything else should be high enough.
My basement is a merky pool.
I'm hoping there will only be maybe two feet of water inside my house on the first floor.
I was planning on getting new carpet anyway but not this soon.

This is crazy; I live ten blocks away from the river!! :(

We are glad you are safe Kelly.
Steve, Bitchn and I got into Wildcat Friday afternoon and were thinking of you , figured your house had water.
The only way into Wildcat is by motorized boat right now , the current is too swift for the canoe.
The good news is the course is in excellent shape ,only water around is at # 9 basket area and that is soaking in .
No trees down at all , it will be awile before we will be able to drive in far enough to get to park boundries.
Will keep everyone updated.

It's good to hear that my second home is for the most part dry!!!

Since the water is receding somewhat, I'm going to try and see how close I can get to my house today.
I'm hopeful that I will be able to at least see how high the water level was there.
I would love to play this weekend but grabbing my discs were not on the top of my list.
I did move them upstairs though

I'll let you know what I find today.

It sounds like I may have dodged a bullet.
They finally let Brother Bob walked down to his father-in-laws to rescue the cats and said the water level at my house got up to the front stoop and may not have penetrated the first floor.
His father-in-laws, a block closer to the river, saw water on the first floor up to the botttom of the windows

I'm not sure when I can go check things out; I have to wait for the word.
It's like a war zone down there with the cops and the national guard keeping watch.
It's a good thing though, protecting the properties from looting I suppose.
Not that there will be anything of value left for most people.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Keep us informed Kelly, you know you can count on us to help any way we can.

Wildcat Update:
The water is going down , parts of the road can be seen
Hopefully we won't get more rain Sunday.
It rained hard today to the South and North of Urbana we were spared for now

The tree that was blocking the road has been removed. It looks like there is no road damage. The bottom part of the park is a mess. I'm not sure if they will lock the gate for awhile until it's cleaned up and safe to camp. The park ranger John, had major flooding at his house in Vinton. I let him know he could count on support from the crew. I think the water could be down enough by Wednesday to drive in.

They still won't let anyone in to see our homes yet today.
Hopefully I can go in tomorrow and assess the damage.
I will be buying cleaning supplies tonight; maybe even a new water heater so I will have it ready to go.
I'm not too concerned about the furnace right now.

I cancelled my Canada trip for next week  , using some vacation this week for cleanup.

There are still generators at Menards if you were thinking about one. I will help if needed but they might not let non residents in whenever they decide to start letting people clean up. I'm off for the next 2 weeks so I'm available.

I shouldn't need a generator I hope but if you need a reason to buy one, this is as good as any.
I just need to get in and see what needs done.
I will let you know for sure if I need help.

I talked to my bro Larry tonight.
He's a wiz at the water heater installation so I'm set there.

I hope I can get in tomorrow to get my discs too.
I sure would like to trek up to Wildcat and leave some of this destruction behind!
If I can't maybe I can borrow some discs to throw.
It would be a shame to beat someone with their own discs
If I can't get in, I will end up working but would love to go up there later.

It looked like they might have your area inspected and have the perimeter moved by this morning. If your house was locked they might have forced the door. I have some lock sets if you need them. I might be able to loan you some discs. We plan to go up to WC today. We'd probably have to try an earlier start than normal.

I'm leaving work @ 10:30 today to go to the house.
From the way it sounds, they have cleaned the streets and I should be able to pull right into my driveway :D
I hope the strike teams checked my windows, which were unlocked, before they decided to break a door down

I'm suppose to help out a neighbor around 4:00 so I doubt I will be able to go play.
It may not take long, just an appearance from what I'm told here at work.
They may have enough help already.
If we start around 5:00, I may make it.
I most definately want to go up this weekend though.
I'll probably just wait until then if you guys want to start earlier.
