NAME CAMDEN II

Postby Orange Guy » Wed Apr 30, 2008 1:38 pm

The city of Milan was originally called Camden Mills until a sleazy watchmaker conned the city into changing its name to Milan to sound more international. Or something like that.

From wiki: "The village is the site of the south campsites which comprised the Sauk and Fox village of Saukenuk, once the second-largest Native American inhabitation in North America."

Also, the creeks there feed into Mill Creek.

Also where Hy-Vee is Lincoln brought a militia up from Springfield and killed most of the tribes in the Milan area. That was a blooding battle field there from what the record books say. So maybe call camden@ Falln Tribe or Fallen Indian.

a little gruesome - might not be the image we want to convey. Worthy historical note.

I know that they had a lot to do with making sure that the funding came through for this, and that Milan continues to support disc golf in the community.

Reed and Rj (along with a few key others including Paul) were instrumental in getting this course approved and have worked on this for some time. I just think they've earned the right to name the course, and they were the ones that came up with "the other side". Its fun to throw out some cool suggestions and kick around some fun conversation, but ultimately my vote on a pole would be to show our appreciation for all their hard work and dedication on this course and throughout the years at Camden as a whole by sticking with the name they chose. Just my 2 cents worth!

I know we did a lot of kissing hands and shaking babies to get this course to finally be a reality, but that is nothing in comparison to the physical work on the course. I believe that this course should be named by everyone who has put their hours in out there; the people who have spent hours taping up blisters and think that digging thorns out of your skin is now fun. This is not going to be any one or few peoples course, but a groups effort. No person or small group deserves the right to name this work of art.

I think we should have a raffle to name the course. For every hour you put into the course you would get one ticket once you have put in at least 15 hours. So the top 18 people in total hours wouldn't be totally out of luck if their number didn't get picked, each of the 18 holes on the course would have 1 of the 18 top volunteers name and a little thanks to them on the sign.

I just came up with this idea while writing this post, so kick it around and let me know what you think. I believe that the hard working people who have and will make this course deserve their pat on the back long after the course in completed.

I think it might be a good idea to at least ask the village of Milan about naming something in their park. I'm sure they'll be cool with it, but it doesn't hurt to have those Ts dotted and Is crossed.
