Saturday Doubles League

Postby calvarycoffee » Sat Sep 02, 2006 6:16 am

We play random doubles every Saturday at 9am.

We have individual challenges also:

Long Drive
Closest to the Pin
Longest Putt

We have an (optinal) Ace Pool also. It is currently at $17.

Our season began April 15 and goes through October 31 ("tax day" to "Halloween"). Our 2007 league will run the same dates.

We play 18 holes of doubles. Most everyone stays to play a round of singles also. If a disc is lost in the water, we usually team up and "swim" for it after our round.

You can view past and present scores at www.masoncity.net (click Recreation then Standings)

September 10th results:

we had a high attendence of 12 players. no aces this week, the pot stands at $23.

it was cold and wet and scores were not so good. the winning score was 53. we had 3 teams tied after 18 holes. due to time, our winner was chosen by a CTP throw on #1 by all 3 teams.

of interesting note, the #8 tee box was moved to the top of the bridge. this made for a massive +300 ft down hill shot over the pond around the huge weeping willow tree. only 2 players managed to stay out of the pond both times.

winning team: Mike Hernandez and Chicago Dave (53)

winners:
CTP: David Swartwood
Long Drive: Joe Goodnow
Long Putt: Chicago Dave

there has been a lot of positive feedback about changing tee locations.

So I'll try to do one hole different each week.

PM me with suggestions!!

Tee #1 was moved to North of Shelter 2. It was a manditory "under the roof" shot.

Tee #8 was moved to be 50ft from the basket, behind a grove of trees making a blind tee shot.

October 1st results:

Winning Team: Hans Schroeder and Mike Hernandez score: 44 (wow!)

individual winners:
CTP: Richard Hernandez (#7)
Long Drive: Doug Krueger (#9)
Long Putt: Mike Hernandez (#1)

we had 12 players

For this week, we moved #7's tee box up and to the left, leaving a visable shot for a duece and a possible ace.

Tee #9 we moved back next to the river, making for a long hole!

Ace pool is at $33
No aces this week, although Mike Hernadez Aced #1 right after doubles play.

REMINDER: Doubles will go until the saturday before Halloween.

October 7 results:

We split into 2 divisions today: Regular and Junior (16 and under). This will be permanent for the rest of the season and probably for next.

Winning Team: David Swartwood and Hans Schroeder (score 49)
Junior winners: Doug Krueger and Manuel Hernandez (score 54)

CTP: Hans Schroeder (#4)
Long Drive: Hans Schroeder (#5)
Long Putt: Doug Kreuger (#9)

No Aces today. Pot is $34

Today we mixed up play a little by having the 1st nine as "worst shot" and the 2nd nine as "best shot." I personally liked this format - it involves more "team" effort.

We had 8 players today.

Tee #4 was moved up and to the left around 70 feet for today. We measured Doug's Long Putt as 138 feet! Dang Son! Hans single-handedly birdied #7

We had a tie breaker for the junior winners with a CTP contest at #1
-------------------------
We will vote on a couple items in the future weeks:

It is mostly about the ace pot. Do we want to cap it? at $50? Do we want to carry it over to next year or something else? Do we want to establish a quarem for ace eligibility? Like a 4 player minimum?

PM me with questions or thoughts

last saturday someone messed with our "CTP" marker sign. our team laid it next to a tree on #4 so we would remember to pick it up on our way back around. and when we got back it was gone.

i checked with everyone. it must have been stolen (odd) or thrown into the pond(?).

I'll see if i can make another one for this saturday.

myles, hope that doesn't happen to you at evening league - lot's of traffic then.

sorry to hear that dave..i just finished my signs last night, and those things are a lot of work and somewhat pricy so I really hope people can restrain themselves from messing with them. my guess is somebody got tired of doing something dumb like throwing rocks at geese so they decided to do something dumber like toss your sign into the water. ridiculous.

anyway, i've actually been fretting that prospect a little bit with the park being quite busy in the PM. only a few weeks left so we'll see how it goes.

this cold weather rocks....why aren't we going year round man!!

THE ACE HAS BEEN WON!!

Congrats to Doug Krueger for Ace-ing hole #1. $36 bucks.

October 14 results:

9 players
Winning Team: David Swartwood and Pat Sullivan score: 51
Winning Juniors: Doug Krueger and Mike Hernandez

CTP: Charlie Schroeder #3
Long Drive: Hans Schroeder #8
Long Putt: Charlie Schroder #5
Trick Shot winner: Pat Sullivan #2

Today we added a "trick shot" hole. This is where you have to throw the designated hole a specific way. These will be pretty funky - it will take some skill and lots of luck. These will change week to week.

Our "trick shot" hole today was #2. All shots had to be thrown left-handed using the "best shot" with your partner. We had a left-handed CTP and Pat was the winner.

We shortened the tees to holes #3 and #5

We decided to start next season the 1st saturday of April. Before it was the 3rd saturday. We will end our season the last saturday of october. Everyone is still free to meet saturdays, it just means that we won't be keeping any records of scores or doing anything with money.

Next week we will add a $1 pot for an extra CTP. This is optional also. there will be a winner everyweek with this. We will still have the regular CTP and everyone is eligible for that. And we'll still have the ace pool starting over, also.

So $2 will get you the full saturday experience!!

October 21 results:

Winning Team: Myles Parker and David Swartwood score: 46
Winning Juniors: Doug Krueger and Jon Francis score: 57

CTP: Hans Schroeder #1 (ace)
Long Drive: Manuel Hernandez #7
Long Putt: Myles Parker #2

Trick shot: Duane Julsen #3

Notes: We had 8 players. it was spitting snow! All tees were original. Hans Schroder aced #1 on the 2nd time through, but didn't win the ace money :(

This weeks trick shot was on #3 and it was the closes to the trash can (by the water's edge. We also started a CTP pool for a dollar a piece, which David Swartwood won.

The ace pot was won last week, so the pot stands at $1 for next week! and next week will be our last day of the season. We resume the 1st saturday of april.
