What is wrong with my name? Would you prefer Addie Bundren??
Anyway, back to the topic at hand. My only negative experience at Waterworks park was one spring afternoon - might have been in '02 - when an unfortunate throw landed my Eagle driver plum into the Raccoon River. I had been experimenting with a new hand grip for Anhyzer throws and the wind was gusting. Excuses aside, it was risky shot and I lost mightily on the throw. You see it was my favorite Eagle driver than landed in the Raccoon and I was going to be damned if I didn't attempt to retrieve it. It was early spring, so that the air temperature was cool and the water in the Raccoon was downright cold. Shoes off, with khakis rolled up to the knees, I began to wade into the slow-moving brown water. I learned two lessons that day: First, the sheer volume of water in the Raccoon creates a strong and powerful current even if it appears slow. Second, when wading into any river, it is wise to leave your checkbook and keys safe on the bank. The 4 and some mile walk back to my apartment in cold wet clothing was penance enough for my errant anhyzer throw. Sitting outside my locked door for 4 hours until my roommate returned from her studies was cruel overkill from the fates, in my opinion.
The next day, I was back at Waterworks Park, don't you know?
