Course conditions

Snow is melted. There's still a thin layer of ice across the top of the lake, as evidenced by the discs sitting out there. We were able to retrieve a couple, but there were still about 6 out on the ice out of retriever reach.

There's still a lot of mud around the teepads. Luckily they're big enough once you ballerina hop onto the pad you can comfortably display your footwork from there.

The dam has a few muddy areas that have been addressed. Surprisingly, the path from 13 to 14 wasn't bad b/c it had enough sticks and leaf type stuff to give footing.

Hole 14 is nasty between the long and short teepads.

Hole 18 is really bad. There's some drainage that runs by the long teepad.

If you're at the edge of the water on hole 21, be careful. I almost took a full dip there when the entire ledge gave way, Eastern hole 12 style.

Also - last time I was there they had raked and seeded around all the teepads which got rid of most the mud around the teepads.

Wanted to pass this message along from one of the main rangers at West Lake:

John,

We host a couple of events at West Lake that impede playing on the disc golf course. I thought I’d let you know about these so possibly you could put something on your club web site to help keep people informed. These are:

Fishing Clinic --- Saturday 7 Jun from 8 to noon

Triathlon --- Saturday 14 June from 0530 to noon

The Fishing Clinic uses a portion of the lanes by a couple holes around Rolling Hills Shelter. You could still play, just not those holes.

The Triathlon run course goes right across the dam between the main lake and Railroad Lake and utilizes the trails so that would be an issue. The Gate 4 area is also part of the course and has a water point on the road. Disc golf players need to wait until after lunch to play that day. Both of these events are historic and happen around the same time each year.

We appreciate any support you could provide in this area. Please call if you have any questions.

Thanks

Wonder how much the fishing clinic had to pay to use the park?

prolly a lefty

In all seriousness, I agree with what he said - I went and read his review. It is highly overrated, and the other park users make parts of the course unplayable. I even experienced this during a tournament - with the ranger sitting right there in his gator, not giving two shits that an event was being held, or that there were 4 people sitting there staring at him waiting for him to move.
