Roots can also be very much considered obsticales preventing planned skips and rollers.

I know its a little late on this one, but something just reminded me of this: at LOD on Krumboltz Hole 6 (the one along the creek with the fairway doglegging right) there was an pretty big sized island in the creek. An island that needed treading in calf deep water just to reach. Someone on my card landed on this island and we called him safe because I think Doug's exact words in the meeting were "dry land is safe." After the round I hear that Lon Reilly landed on the same island and his group called him out because the island itself was completely surrounded by OB and wasn't connected to IB in anyway.

What is the official rule on this? ?

Yes, I don't think "surrounded by OB" is very useful. The whole course is surrounded by OB for that matter. I know what Chris means though, sometimes people try to play a dry spot in the creek but since it is surrounded by water, it is still out. There are island fairways in some places though.

Maybe this is more like how we play the roads typically; on or across is OB. So unless the hole is on the other side of the creek, it would be out. Really though, the island should have been called in or out at the players meeting.

It has always been played as OB there. If it was safe, I'd start counting to 30, the second they reached the bank of the creek

The right side of that hole as Tyler said has always been OB. But there is a ton of discrepancy on that hole. Two years ago I threw my drive about 400 past the black water on the left side where that car is, but it was deemed OB because it was "past the OB line" or something. Right in the middle of the grass, nothing painted, no fence, no water nearby threw a provisional and Doug said it was OB.

There have been many spots over the years that haven't been well defined on Krumboltz, but this isn't one of them. An island in an OB stream is always gonna be out unless specifically designated as IB.

Let's make a change next. Bushwhacker rules, NO OB!
