Wonder how long it takes for cgkdisc to come through and destroy every single baseless argument that ever is thrown up against his rating system. Seems to happen at least once a year at some major with people bitching about how ratings are inflated. Btw, ratings are meaningless...and accurate.

Ratings aren't inflated they are just that much better than you

Nikko shot -16 what do you expect his rating to be?

The extra high ratings are "our" fault. All of the rusty snowbirds come out of hibernation and head to the Memorial where we tank enough to pump up the SSA where the touring dudes who have been living down there feast on our points.

The inflated ratings comes from the disparity between average players and really good players. The OB at the Memorial pronounces that by making par a much better score than it would be at a course without as much OB. Let's say you're playing 7-8-9 at GV, *par* (1000 rating) is probably 2.6 - 2.7/hole and that might be high so if you're 2 under for that stretch (which is pretty good), you might only pick up half a stroke on the field. 1 under and you lose ground on the field and 1000 rating. A 3 hole stretch at the Memorial where water is in play *par* might be 3.2 - 3.3/hole so a score of 3 is actually above 1000 rated, and when Nikko gets 2 on all 3 he's separated himself from *par* by that much more.

What about Nikko with 3 holes to go carding a double circle 7? Chuckin harsh... 40 foot uphill put, off the cage- rolls o.b.. Opts to take the same lie-center chains-spits out-rolls o.b.. Plays it from where it went o.b.-toss up-tap in

Ouch...
