Weekend Dubs

Postby Beerman » Sun Jan 13, 2013 5:51 pm

Apparently this little weekend gathering has taken off. We are about 6 weeks into this and what started as a group of 10 has grown to 18 at big creek last week and 27 made it up to Ames this weekend. I plan on running this up to tournament season.

Anyone is invited to join us going forward.

For those of you that don't know......

Random doubles........

Buy in: one disc (champion or better new or used and no worse than a 7/10)
Payout: everyone takes home 1 disc, lowest score gets first choice from the stack high score gets last choice.

Saturday or Sunday will vary based on many factors

Time: normaly its a noon(ish) tee

Ace fund: optional $2

Where: varies, but we try not to play des moines courses.

The most important thing is this is meant to be a fun gathering.

Looking forward to it. Anybody that wants a ride, I have room in my car.

Bus leaves at 10:30

No one else will say it, but I will ;). Don't bring a piece of shit disc. This isn't 'unload your crap night.' bring something decent, lightly used, premium plastic. Unless its a putter, or brand new dx/pro. Everybody gets a disc back, the point is to cycle some of the plastic people have that sits and collects dust.

All the discs have been good so far, but I think we can do better. Props to Duden for bringing the best plastic so far.

The rule is no dx or pro and let's keep it that way..... I don't want to have to police what people are bringing.

Hoping to make it to one of these soon if its on a Sunday. I suggest the revamped course in Marshalltown. The course doesn't play long, but it plays fun.
Force, Wraith, Teebird, Pig, Buzzz, Cobra, Challenger...This week at least.

Strategy

Postby Sidearm » Fri Jan 18, 2013 10:38 am

What's the strategy? Do you donate something really good in the hopes of having greater focus or do you donate something you don't care about so that you can play pressure-free?

I have nothing against pro/dx plastic and actually prefer it in some molds. The problem is the perceived value of dx/pro plastic. Most of us have played long enough that we carry discs based on flight characteristics and not because of the materials in which it was made.

There is no strategy here. This is meant to be a FUN gathering of GREAT people. The original reason for these events is to have a reason to golf with my friends. Bring something that you don't use but would appreciate if given to you.
