I'm not that surprised, the Vikes weren't that far off last year. They lost 9 games by less than 7 and 3 of those being a difference of a field goal.
They added a stud left tackle (while shedding Hutch's aging skills and moving Johnson to a better fit at guard), 2 solid rookies in the secondary, a guy that can stretch the field in Simpson, a stud rookie kicker, a confident QB with a complete off-season and no competition/controversy, and a healthy AP. Not to mention a new D-Coordinator that has this team playing smart and effective schemes.
My one major fear was Musgrave as the O-Coordinator, but he's surprised me. He's actually calling the games to the teams strengths and not trying stupid shit that won't work with the personal they have.
It’s not flashy football, but it’s getting the job done in a style that is not supposed to work in the so-called “passing league”. They’re playing “Black & Blue" football, like we used to see in the NFC north.
I see it continuing. Sure they’re going to pick up a loss here and there, but the schedule is looking less daunting as each week passes as the team keeps winning and the so-called front divisional front runners are struggling. Every game on the schedule now looks winnable; even the game at Houston. I see at least a 10 win season.
The big concern moving forward into the future is locking up Harvin long-term. He’s hands down the best all-around player in the NFL right now.
