Anyone heard about course rules? Are they doing stroke and distance on every hole again?

USDGC Rules Variance – Graham

Graham gave the board an overview and summary of a request by Harold Duvall for a rules variance to rule 803.09 Out-of-Bounds, for the 2012 United States Disc Golf Championship. Harold submitted the following:

If the disc comes to rest completely surrounded by out-of-bounds after clearly hitting the playing surface in bounds sometime during the throw, the player has an option as to how to proceed. The player may elect to play the next throw from a lie that is up to one meter away from and perpendicular to the point where the disc last crossed out of bounds counting the original throw and a one-throw penalty. Or the player may elect to re-throw from the previous lie counting the original throw, but no additional penalty throw.

If the player's disc comes to rest completely surrounded by out-of-bounds clearly without ever hitting the playing surface in bounds, the player will re-throw from the previous lie counting the original throw. No additional penalty throw will be added.

Yes, that's right. On holes where this is in place, the players/spotters will have to determine whether a disc hit in-bounds before going out of bounds, and the player's choices will be different depending on that.

When they are using this rule, it won't be stroke-and-distance for any of the outcomes.

I don't get it. Is it not still the best tournament? I mean, they had that one year of handicapping which was lame. But the real division is still the USDGC, isn't it?

yeah, just half as big...so half as good? I'm sure less money, and less paid spots. It's a giant expense now. Of course they may surprise us and let everyone win.

Wow, Jussi couldn't get a team together to travel over for the Presidents Cup. I'm shocked Cotton.

Just got an email from JP-

‘OB’ is used in the rules to refer to outof-
bounds. If your throw goes OB, it
is still your turn. Throw again from
the same lie, even if this lie is within
the 10-meter circle. Count one for the
throw that went OB but no additional
penalty throw. All paved
roads and parking lots are out-ofbounds.
Except as noted, all sidewalks
are out-of-bounds. Some roads and
sidewalks are delineated by white lines
to define the edges. Concrete curbing,
where present, is out-of-bounds. The
concrete parking lot drains that extend
inwards on holes 11 and 13 are not part
of curbing; they are in-bounds.

Yeah this is the strongest field I've seen and competed in. I'm actually really excited to go. Got my flight, rental car and hotel on Tuesday. $753.59 for the week so that wasn't bad. Hopefully this years solid play will carry over. 2010 was better than most years. Have to stay patient and smart. I also like the fact that every round I will be playing with great disc golfers. In years past there were some golfers that should not have been on the course.
