First some history, I have been playing for more than 5yrs but most of it was casual, 1 disc, many beer disc golf with friends. Last year, I played a grand total of 2 times. The year before that I played league and was out many times a week. If you see a blue SRT-4 with a 20ft spoiler (this thing was stock) and a "greedo" license plate, that's me. Anyhow, I want to get back into playing this year but I feel like I am starting over.
I used to drive a pretty consistant 300ft with the occasional 350-375ft throw. Nothing spectacular, but I don't play 'A' in league. My mid range game has always sucked and my putting was so-so.
I was out at Walnut last night practicing and I think I was the ONLY person there all night. My drives are all going about 200ft then diving hard right into the ground. I was throwing a 171 Star Starfire and a 172 Pro Wraith. So I pulled out an old Orc and Champ Tbird thinking I would have lot harder time turning these over. It was a little better, but things just weren't coming out right. I also threw a lighter Sidewinder (168) and Pro Starfire (167). I found that I was able to get a much better looking throw from these.
I almost feel like I have a mental block telling me that when I have a heavier disc in my hand that I REALLY need to rip it hard. I feel like I may be snapping them too hard. I should also note, I am not that big of a guy so a 172 feels sorta heavy to me.
I don't expect anyone to have a magic answer to why I can't drive, but any insight into things I might be able to make sure I shoudn't do would be wonderful. I would also be interested to hear what weight discs some of you guy use.
