Vandalism on Camden 2

Postby tufluk » Fri Aug 10, 2012 5:35 pm

Been a rash of vandalism on Camden 2 in the last week or 10 days. 2 signs directing players from 1 hole to the next were torn off of trees and destroyed. 3 boards denoting the O.B. line on hole 5 were kicked and broken.
As usual, the crew on the "Other Side" will repair the damage, and replace the signs. Unfortunately, time spent fixing is time that is taken away from providing amenities.
Have recovered pieces from the hole 10 directional sign. I am making arrangements to get together w/ my Milan Police contact to see if any useable prints can be recovered from the sign's glossy finish. If that person's prints are "in the system", we may be able to identify the culprit(s). If anyone spots a cedar sign w/ a red metal "4" on it lying in the weeds, leave it there and call me @ 309 762-1721. I will gather that as additional evidence.
If anyone hears any rumors about what's going on, feel free to PM or call me.
Actually hate to have to contact the authorities. Would prefer to catch the creep(s) and handle it the old fashioned way.
Sprague suggested puting out some trail cams, using the new signs as bait. Any deer hunters want to do some snooping around?

Something to consider:

Signs on the park say it closes at 10 p.m. Course work and round play often linger well beyond 10 p.m. Milan Police become accustomed to seeing vehicles in the park after closing. Vandals now blend right in. Doesn't make it right, just makes it harder to police.

While you're at it, maybe try to also catch the people that have been vandalizing Camden One for the past several years.

Would be suprised if the vandalism took place after dark. Hole 5 is a poke from the parking lot. Would be difficult for the average vandal to find their way out from there. Guys who play there regularly don't do that stuff.

Impossible for police to catch. Have never seen an officer in the woods on any course. Only way to catch a vandal is eyewitness, cameras, or maybe prints from damaged items. Or ignorant fvcks bragging to wrong person.

I know this happens everywhere, example being Dave's bench on Camden 1, hole 6. Also saw damaged sign @ Credit Island.

Damage will be repaired by this afternoon.

This was just a "keep your eyes and ears open" announcement. Would apply to every golfer on every local course.
