The Green Iowa Americorps Tourist Project

Postby Master Lee » Wed May 16, 2012 7:20 am

Just wanted to send out a huge thanks to Jason and the Green Iowa Americorps crew! Yesterday afternoon 30 to 40 volunteers decended on Tourist park to assist in fixing and cleaning up the course. We removed tons of wood chips left behind from Sturgis Falls Celebration. The city and parks department brought in lots of tools and fresh dirt. We also backfilled around the tee pads, re-anchored and fixed many of the baskets. Yep even hole 13 is standing now. Grass seed was planted on all areas where fresh dirt was spread. Some of the old threaded anchors were removed. And all tee pads have been stenciled with hole numbers and directional arrows. This should serve as a nice guide for players until the new tee signs arrive. And finally, the vast majority of trash was cleaned up, even some of the litter in the woods.
Thanks a bunch to the 2 D-League guys EEGZ and Pal. For assisting me in directing some of the volunteers, labeling the tees and helping with basket repair.
Finally Thanks to Mark Ripplinger and the Cedar Falls Parks Department for providing all the tools and equipment and for helping get this project together.
So if you see anyone sporting an Americorps shirt Give them a big thanks, the do many projects to improve the quality of life in our area.
This whole project was just fantastic! Thanks again to everyone involved!

BTW, if you want to see more on this, CFU was out there filming the project. It will be televised on CFU public access Channel 15 this Friday at 6:30pm. Then every night at the same time for the following week.
