Will this be the last Team Iron Lion? Crazy folk say so. Either way, there are going to be a few changes to the Team moving forward. Before I get into that, Id like to thank everyone that has been part of the Team the last few years. We understand sponsorship should mean more than some hats, shirts, and discounts, but we do what we can. We appreciate your business and friendships, and hope there is understanding in the fact that any decisions are made in the best interest of Iron Lion.
One of the bigger changes will be the structure. We are moving to a 3 tier setup.
National, Regional and Local/ Promotional.
Its pretty obvious. National level players compete in National Tour events . They hit 25 or more PDGA tourneys a year. They compete for National and World Championships on various levels. They represent Themselves and Iron Lion with professional conduct at ALL times and in ALL situations. Any other player sponsorships are subject to dismissal from Team Iron Lion. There are exceptions and each players case will be reviewed seperately. This includes all levels of sponsorships, not just National.
Regional is where most the existing members and prospects will fall. These are players that compete on the IOS and Iowa Tour Events and travel regionally to play and promote disc golf. Regional players have other things going on, like a family and a real job, but try to make several events a season. Regional players hit 15-20 events, with 10+ being PDGA events. They compete in various divisons, and occasionally travel for the big event.
Local/ Promotional is another that is basically self explained. These players hit leagues, local events, run tournaments, run leagues, promote disc golf, do course work, and work to promote the Iron Lion brand. They are expected to keep playing and keep having fun. Lots of these people would play more if they could, but they sacrifice thier time for others and the growth of disc golf. They help out Us when we need it, without asking. They are our kind of people, and we like having them around.
Another change for this year will be that players are EXPECTED to submit a resume of thier years accomplishments. This doesnt have to be disc golf performance related, as that has never been the primary reason for some peoples spot to begin with. That doesnt waver. We support those that support disc golf, and work within the community to bring disc golf to the masses in a positive light.
In the last year the Team has grown. Its not my desire to kill off spots- that isnt happening-but some people have just totally fallen off the pace of what we have asked for, which isnt much. Life has a way of making that happen. We arent paying your bills, I totally get it. Others have climbed the ladder farther and continue to do it week in and week out from various divisons, not just Pro. Some just want it more.
Some dont respect that, although we arent giving you the world, we are giving you more than the next guy.. They dont see it all, just whats there for them. That doesnt work for Iron Lion. Basically, If your not all about it, get out of the way for someone that is.
Deadline is January 15th, 2012.
