Yeah, Baseball was getting in the way of his drinking  Good season Cards. Glad the champ came out of the Central, and very glad the baseball season is over...

Mike Matheny seems like an interesting choice for the Saint Louis Cardinals.
I am not sure if it is good or bad, but teams with a loaded line up do not usually bring in a coach with no major league head coaching experience.

I'm not exactly stoked about it either but of the 6 they interviewed, Francona was the only one with previous experience. I'm guessing they will take a run at pujols now, since they only have to pay their manager 30k/year.

Still would have loved to see Sandberg there.

Yeah you would. That way if the Cards sucked you could blame it on an xCubs player. And if they were good. You could talk shlt about Cubs players will only be successful with other teams...yadayadayada

It's not talking smack if it's true. Lou Brock, Greg Maddux, Joe Girardi, Mark Grace.......

Maybe we're talking about a Bizarro World, 1984 newspeak or S/M definition of success. Like NOT winning a World Series in over a century. The Cubs do indeed hold the record for most years in ANY major sport without winning the world title. No small feat in and of itself.

hahaha you whippersnappers are showing your youth. Mike Matheny is why Yadi Molina is the catcher he is today. Book that shit.

I remember when Mike played for the Cardinals hearing several commentaries on what a great teacher he is, and how he will make a great manager. IMO, this was the best hire for the organization, and came as a pleasant surprise to me.

I would've given Sandinthevag less than a year before he got fired.

No reason to be sorry to this Cards fan. Three WS appearances, two titles, a now huge chunk of disposable income for our front office, I think things are on the up and up for Cardinals baseball, honestly. IMO, he's not worth a 10 year $250 million deal, and I think the Cardinals would have been foolish to pay him that. It would have crippled the Cardinals financially for quite some time. True, it's always sad to see somebody go, but this isn't the NBA, players of such high caliber aren't necessarily the huge impact to teams like a Dwight Howard could be in a blockbuster NBA deal. It's not like the Angels are all of a sudden going to be a dominant force in the AL. It makes sense for him to go to an AL team too, since he's been playing hurt basically for the last 2-3 years and IMO, his career is on the downturn. Now he can do some DH-ing, which you'll see him do a lot of in the latter years of this contract. I'm happy for him and his family, and as a long time fan, I don't really think that he left any unfinished business on the table in St. Louis. It's time for a new Card's chapter and I'm excited about it. Now that this drama is over, I'd like to see us go for Fielder, or maybe even Rollins....

Ya, I'm glad they didn't pay him but still sucks to see him leave. It's amazing how people, mainly cards fans, are tearing him apart for leaving. I'll be a Pujols fan the rest of my life, i just hope with all that money he will keep mowing my yard.
