Hunting Issues

Hunting Issues

Postby hyzerman16234 » Wed Aug 18, 2010 8:10 am

I want to report about an issue with the upcoming hunting season we are dealing with.

We just went to a meeting last night to work out an agreement with the Benton County Conservation Board that would, if approved, restrict the use of the course from 12/1 until 1/10. In a nut shell the couple of hunters have complained that they can't hunt because discer's are always there. During the deer shotgun season and late muzzle loader season we agreed that for safety reasons discer's should not be there. We reminded them that it is a public place and they know they can't enforce the rule. Please don't go there during this time frame. If this agreement doesn't work the restriction could get worse. Hunting season starts at WCB on September 15th. If you encounter any hunter be friendly and move on. There is one particular hunter that may frequent the place as soon as he can start hunting just to try to provoke discers. He will have a dog with him and will be hunting squirrels. We need to avoid confrontation with him. If he does pull anything please let us know and we'll let the proper authorities know. Spread the word. Thanks.

I'll be posting more info as we know it. The tourney is still on even though it falls on the last weekend of early muzzle loader. Also remember it's recommended to have something to wear that's blaze orange during hunting season.

That's a good question. I don't know how anyone could say you can't.

That might actually work great for WCB. If your shot is horrible you can just practice your skeet shooting.

Are they saying they only want disc golfers to play from Decemeber through October.

I think I have run across the squirell hunter before. First time hearing gun shots go off while trying to putt was scary. Sorry this hassle is going on. Maybe spin it in a good way.

Would the park rather have a couple hunter or a metric butt ton of disc golfers? Seems to me which ever group is larger should get the most consideration.

I wish it was that simple. The place was a hunting ground long before the course. Basically whatever we want goes against hunting. We said we'd be OK with staying out during the 6 weeks starting Dec 1st. That is the most dangerous time to be there. Hopefully that will satisfy the hunters and they will not complain anymore. I hope players honor the agreement. We certainly don't want more restrictions imposed on us. Maybe down the road the board will see it more our way.

I think that should read December 1st, 2010 through January 10th, 2011.
Basically a 5 week period that park usage is restricted allowing only hunters during deer hunting season.
I think this is similar to what the Corp does at Sugarbottom?

No basket pulling. We'd never get them back in until thaw time. Some sleeves hold water. The park will have sign by the gate.

There's only one way to definitely solve the problem and that is to pull the baskets. I think it's very reasonable to give up 6 weeks of play, especially at that time of year.
