Yeah, I know. But Big Star and all that. Pretty seminal, though I admit it's not my favorite stuff. I heard they were just about to get back together for SXSW. Man, all the rock guys die in their 50's. We can guess what's up with that.

I never developed a taste for Big Star but I guess that's not unusual. Used to hear it on one station regularly enough, but it never stuck. Kind of like the rules to backgammon, I don't know how many times I learned that before I gave up trying to remember and stuck with bridge. I was listening to a tribute on NPR the day after he died, and the station quit in the middle of it to go to fund raising mode. Probably meant to bypass the segment altogether but it irked me. No pledge $$ for them.

I was surprised to read the other day that Peter Graves, who flew from the planet a couple weeks ago, was the brother of James Arness. I never knew that. Should serve me well in some stupid trivia battle in the future.

Dio has rocked for a long, long time,
Now it's time for him to pass the torch.
He has songs of wildebeests and angels,
He has soared on the wings of a demon.

It's time to pass the torch,
You're too old to rock, no more rockin' for you.
We're takin' you to a home,
But we will sing a song about you.

And we will make sure that you're very well taken care of.
You'll tell us secrets that you've learned. Raow!
Your sauce will mix with ours,
And we'll make a good goulash baby.
Dio, time to go!
You must give your cape and scepter to me.
And a smaller one for KG.
Go! Go! Dio! Dio!

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Police say the bassist for the Iowa
metal band Slipknot has been found dead in a suburban Des Moines
hotel room.
Urbandale police say a hotel employee found 38-year-old Paul
Dedrick Gray dead in a room at the Town Plaza Hotel. Foul play
wasn't suspected.
The Polk County Medical Examiner's Office plans an autopsy
Tuesday.
Most Slipknot members grew up in the Des Moines area. The band,
known for its grotesque masks, released its first album in 1999. It
sold more than 1 million copies.
