The price of getting live Internet coverage. Seems reasonable. There's no competitive advantage or disadvantage.

Why does it take a "super group" to warrant live coverage?

Why is that not obvious when you only have one or two cameras to follow a group? After the first round, the better players will have come to the top card automatically.

I think its fun to watch a couple of lesser known players grouped with the usual suspects.

Exactly. Otherwise, why not just pair up all of the top touring pro's into groups and throw the lesser players to the side?

At the Memorial (in Phoenix) this weekend(?), 4 big dogs have been placed in a group together in the final tee time slot. I imagine this goes against some competition guideline or something. But the PDGA got in bed with snowboarding and 3rd-rate Beach Volleyball to do a TV deal so apparently this grouping is for that purpose.

Or something.

I agree with the "that's stupid" sentiment. Didn't they already fuck up a TV deal once? wth..

I watch some PGA events, but not a lot of them. In those events, I never saw a PGA super group.

They have them almost every single PGA tournament the first round, esp in Majors...

Did you watch the FedEx Cup Playoff events last year? Rory and Tiger were matched up because they were one and two in FedEx cup points. I think they both earned the right to play together through out the year. Did the four players in today's super group earn the right to play together based of off last years play? Maybe...

Why is there any argument against this? It gets people talking, people love to watch those groups, and there is provably no competitive advantage. Why would we not want more attention paid to this sport, especially the players that are really really damned good?
