We're going to put this guy who is outweighed by 65 pounds with a 10 inch reach disadvantage in against a pro-bowl NFL lineman. Lets see what happens...

That's a separate asteroid that's supposed to pass within 17,000 miles of Earth but not hit. The one that exploded over Russia wasn't large enough to be detected.

nor are they related. As they are/were traveling (or travelling) on different angles.

I've since been informed that the Cuban one, the one spotted out in the Atlantic, and the one in California yesterday aren't necessarily all that uncommon. It's reporters and blogger's scouring twitter and forums to find Meteoroid or Meteorite references that is uncommon. Preliminary assessments of the Chelyabinsk meteoroid put it around an "every 80 to 100 year" event. Anything smaller is an almost daily event.

I actually saw a meteor explode in the sky right when I first moved out here to the desert about 9 months ago. No sound or shockwave made it to where I was, but the flash was incredible. I went ballistic on facebook about it if anyone saw.

I've actually seen one as well. Driving home on US 30 about 10 years ago. Middle of the night, clear sky with a few clouds. Saw a streak that raced across the sky that was visible for about as long as the Russian one was. Pretty awesome.
