Edit* I pay for Norton, but that must not be enough to keep this shit from happening. It can't be the porn either, I pay for cinemax and an iphone so I dont use this for that

it probably is the norton... ytf would you pay someone to put a resource hogging botnet on your computer? I know you use windows, you're not smart enough for linux or rich and stupid enough for a mac, so here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5201

yeah dude, you have adware, it won't let you download anything because it's protecting itself. it's likely you got it from getting too clicky while streaming sports? Not sure if you do or not though..

Don't pay money guy, put a little effort forth, use Duden's computer (or somebody's, if he doesn't have one) and download the installer packages for adw cleaner and spybot onto a usb drive. take the usb drive to your computer, run<install<scan<delete everything found. Should be good to go.

Learn to use the command prompt so you can get around the idiocracy that is the windows overlay. Almost assuredly something changed your registry to make it so chrome doesnt know where itself is. Its a very common practice of these things to stop access to CHrome since google is so good at finding problems.. so....google some google chrome issues on someone elses computer and spend an hour or two learning your $1000 pos :)

DVD player went bad on my laptop. It sees it but can't connect. From device manager this is what I get.

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I've uninstalled/re-installed multiple times. No new drivers available. Figured that should redo the registry but nope. Really don't want to call the help desk cause then everything gets really messed up.

Grimm, unfortunately this is my answer to a lot of things, but an OS rebuild might simply fix it. The module for drive I/O in the OS may be fubarred by age, virus, whatever.

Before going that route, I'd try to look at the drive, or hte stats for your laptop and figure out what brand & model the drive is. It could be a Fujitsu, Lite-On, Hitachi, or other brand. Then Googling for drivers can help sometimes - but tends to wind up w/ spyware/issues, so be aware you'll need your Antivirus & AntiMelware updated before searching.

If you know someone w/ a USB DVD drive, you could hook it up to your laptop & see if that one installs succfessfully first, before you determine the OS is buggered up.

Another way to verify the drive is fine, but the OS is FUBAR, is to take your system restore discs, pop them in, and see if the system will boot off of them. You don't have to do the rebuild, but at least use it to see if the drive is even reading a disc.
