Most bizarre thing u have done to try to improve your game?

Postby Sidearm » Tue Oct 30, 2012 9:19 am

What's the most bizarre thing you have done to try to improve your game? After two or three years of playing, when I still threw rhbh shots exclusively, I often felt frustrated because of early release problems. Discs often felt like they slipped out of my grip a split second too soon off the teepad, eliminating birdie opportunities.

While walking throught he grocery store one day, I thought I found the answer to my problem - little balloons! That's right, I purchased a bag of small balloons, cut the ends off & slid them on to my four fingers (to about the second knuckle so that they would stay on). It messed up my putting, though, so I had to take them off when I was ready to putt & then put them on again before I teed off. I did that for about 6 months. I'm not sure why nobody smacked me upside the head with a disc during that time.

That's the most bizarre thing I have ever done to try to improve my disc golf game. Feel free to begin the mockery or share a story.

I see guitar players band their strumming hand fingers together. Not sure what it does, but I'm sure the first guy was looked at a little funny.

I tried not having sex the night before. It did NOT work.

I don't have a sample to compare this to.

When I first started playing I had problems with blisters on my throwing hand. I was using Skin Shield Liquid Bandage to keep seal them up and numb it. I found it increased snap to big levels and I tried a little to master it but it proved to be a loose cannon method.

I tried that once too. I played a torunament and she was pissed that I was going so clearly I didn't get any the night before. I played great, so the next tournament I didn't even try the night before. I played terrible. She wasn't mad at me for this one so she asked how it went ad I told her terrible. The next three events went in my favor the night before and the dy of. Point is....whatever you beleive helps probably does for you.

My game is so all over the board, it has always been hard to decide what is working and what isn't. I used to describe my throwing style as high maintenance; 3 finger grip required exact timing on the release, different grips for different distances sometimes prompted changes in grip mid throw on tweeners, my putting would even go to hell for a while after I trimmed my fingernails. The only thing that kept my game halfway presentable was playing about 20 or 30 rounds a week.

Luckily my foray into extreme snapping hoping to add distance, gave me a horking case of tendinitis. A few years later, when I got back into it, I really made an effort to simplify, better for health and consistency.
