That was cool...

Wow! Haven't tried to figure out the practical applications, but that's pretty cool.

Interesting if you read about the flux pinningthat is going on here, it actually introduces friction to accomplish this, if I'm reading it right. I assume that means you would need to decide if the stabilization from the flux pinning, versus some alternate method, is worth the added friction.

Does anyone know commercial or even practical applications of regular super cooled levitation (they call it Meissner levitation?)

this is just magnetism...

It isn't really all that new of a process either. It isn't safe/easy/sustainable/efficient to have to cool things to the point of superconductivity. They've been doing things similar to this with Quantum computing for years.

That's really all it is, superconductive magnetism, not really sure where they are getting "Quantum" from. Not to say I don't think it's there, it's probably a really thin example though. Superconductivity at room temperature? That would be something amazing. I don't see anything really profound here. No flying cars, just improved maglev. Practical applications in lots of engineering tasks like drawbridges or trains.

I'd like to see my discs hover like that or some gravitational pull to the basket.....that would be a "practical application" to me.

It only seems like I'm saying no. I'm only trying to confirm.
