DM Open Aug 18th ~ Last Tournament at Ewing Park until 2015.

Postby Beerman » Wed Jul 25, 2012 10:15 am

Due to the Indianola Road Expansion Project this will most likely be the last tournament to take place at Ewing Park until 2015. The Des Moines Disc Golf Club has not determined if the Disc Golf Park will remain in the park while construction is in progress or if the baskets will be pulled until the expansion project is completed. As it is Holes 1,2 and 3 have to be pulled at years end as the land they sit on are part of the next Phase of the project.

Dont miss your chance to play in the final competitve round at this historic park.

I doubt that they get phase 2 of the project done by then but I'm not 100% sure.

Word on the street is baskets will be moving between rounds for this one this year, so come on out and play Ewing in a couple different settings. Should be fun!

Dave and i were talking monday about this being the last tourney. It got me thinking that maybe playing the 1st rd from original pins, then 2rd could be changed to where ever he wanted them to be or go vice versa. The only holes this wouldnt work on are 8, 13, 17. I think alot of local and out of towners that come every year would like it also. i sorta like the 2nd rd from the originals so they could stay there after the tournament.

I like this idea. At last years Des Moines Open some of the pins were moved to places I hadn't played in years. I think it would great to play all sorts of pin locations since the course is going to change. It would be fun to play 4 in the long, 11 in the long, 10 way to the right if that's still possible, things like that.

13 in the short is such a waste of a fairway, 6's long collar has been run over by the mowers several diff times. We talked about it last night, while its a great hole, not sure if its worth it to put a new collar in for one tourny when the course is getting changed up real soon

4's middle is a much better placement, the long is kind of a tweener Imo. 11 long is a great spot.

1: Short
10: Right position if possible
13: Long right if it could be found
15: Short

that's cool, just have heard storytales of those 2 holes

Corey had a sweet idea in mind for the redesign for holes 1-3 but can't remember it all (one hole was teeing off somewhere from where the old house sat)

I have a pretty good idea of where things are going. I will be going out this Sunday to locate pin placements, move a few baskets, and clean out all of the locks and collars. Right now I am hoping to move 14 baskets between rounds (might need a volunteer to help me) and the rest will remain a secret until the day of.

The second round could be a test run for the future layout..... just sayin
