I'm with nohr, I don't think I would play, but good luck with your "big" tournament idea. My suggestion is you"ll need something more lucrative than just money.

Sponsors

I figured there would probably be enough courses. I just think it'd be awesome to put together a big event in iowa to try and draw in several hundred players to play and have a good time playing. it could also be a good way to draw more positive attention to disc golfing and iowa. From my area we could probably get 50 players alone especially if there is beer lol.

Speaking from experience, It is a pretty big chore getting any business you don't already have connections with to pony up cash for disc golf. No matter how much the sport has grown, the economy and the perception that some people have of the sport keeps a lot of people from opening their checkbooks. I am with Jay. If you know of an avenue to raise additional cash in the amounts you have described, come join us and make The Challenge that much bigger. Raising money and prizes and running events big and small is a lot of work. The bad part is that some of the big pros that would be attracted to the fat $$$ you are talking about are just as likely to win and bitch about something as they are to say "Thank You." When its all said and done, that is what drives my decisions in running or helping with events. Good luck whatever you do.

lol i said a couple time this is just a fun question meaning it wasn't serious at all. guess next time i should specify a little better. i did get one answer though everyone would just rather make the class bigger and improve it. even though from alot that i have heard it sounds like a pretty awesome event as it is.

no offense this sounds like a slow cooked troll......already good tournies if you had someone that could offer more cash have that person/organization become the 'lead' sponsor 'platinum' level if you will...

otherwise this just sounds like a pipe dream or troll.....don't reinvent the wheel when there are already 100's of perfectly round wheels...

There is actually a tournment like this every year. Here in Dubuque we have an Ice bowl on Feb 29-30th that gets around 300 players on 3 different courses. Pay out is generally around $1500 for first. Its a 2 day event with a party and many fun side events.

You should come up and check it out this year.

Actually I didn't have anything planned for the 30th yet, maybe I will check this out! Do you have to play both days or can you register for 30th only?

thanks!

Yeah, unfortunatly theres only one course in dubuque.

On a serious note, putting together a tournament like the one you described is really hard. It would take far too long to get a new one going. The only real chance is like some others said and to try and help an existing tournament become bigger. Also to be able to give out that type of prize pool you need to have a lot of people and sponsors. This means you need 3 top tier courses in a small area. There are not that many places in Iowa that could do this. That I am aware of it would be Des Moines, CR/IC, and the Quad Cities.

*edit... Oh yeah.. I would go to a large tourney like this, just like I plan on hitting the first class challenge this year.
