2011 Holiday Disc Golf Showdown

Postby DLCdisc » Tue Sep 27, 2011 9:53 am

Its that time again! I am excited to announce the 4th annual Holiday Disc Golf Showdown to be held on Sunday, November 13th. The last three years it has been at Big Creek, but this year we are doing something a little different. The year's event will be held at Terrace Hills Golf Course in on the East side of Altoona, Iowa. There will be food and beverage available at the course and we are working on the availability of golf carts for the event. This will be the same event with a low entry, tons of prizes, added cash, and an all around good time along with the added flare of a new and exciting venue. Flyer will come soon.

In the meantime, I am looking for commitments on good quality portable baskets for this temporary course. Also, to keep with the tradition if anyone has discs, disc golf gear, or any other prizes they would like to donate that would be great to start now. Let me know about prizes or baskets via PM.

Thanks everyone -- more to come.

Good stuff Damon. Any chance you'll let us in on the layout?
I'm sorry that the middle of my sentence interrupted the beginning of yours.

I have a nice discatcher sport you can use. Just remind me about it so I can figure out how to get it there.

Holiday Showdown

Postby DLCdisc » Wed Sep 28, 2011 10:00 am

Glad to hear people are looking forward to this. I put quite a bit of time and effort into the Challenge each year, but the effort I throw into this one just seems to be more fun than work. Just to keep things going, here are a couple of updates:

1. Awards will once again be provided by me. Not cheap or easy, but not one penny of that cost will come from your money :D :D .
2. I am up to $100 added cash already.
3. In my tradition of no one goes home empty handed, there will of course be a players pack for each player and enough prizes for the drawings that everyone will win at least once. Once again, none of that is coming out of the payout :D :D .
4. I have asked a couple of people to assist me with planning the layout. I can do this and would probably have a lot of fun with it, but they will help me with a good balance of holes utilizing the elevation, water, trees, paths, and fencelines for a nice temp course. I can say that although it is on a ball golf course, it will not be set up in a fashion where the longest arm is assured a win. My goal is to force the use of a variety of shots. As this is a public golf course and they will be shutting part of it down that day at absolutely no cost to us :D :D , we will not get to practice this layout prior to that morning. I will however attempt to utilize Google Earth or something along those lines to get a visual map and distances ahead of time. I am technologically challenged, so if someone wants to step up and help me with that let me know.

Once again, if anyone has prizes they would like to donate or a basket I can use just PM me and I will keep a list. I will keep you posted as more details come up.

Sure wish I knew someone who makes maps for a living

Yea, may have to come and stay saturday night. I know I can't have a repeat of the Friday night at Hub City.
