Black Hawk IRONMAN on July 3rd???

Postby Golfguy » Fri May 21, 2010 10:08 am

Anyone interested in playing in a Black Hawk IRONMAN on July 3rd?

What if we limit the field to 45 players and do the flights as for Snow Disc.

So, we start with 5 players per card at Tourist at 7am...but, only 9 cards. Then the same card goes to Ghost Town and plays 18 holes.

Then, all cards go to Exchange for the big sort into 3 flights. Take a 30 min lunch break and play sorted into the flights only 3 players per card and play 27 holes.

All cards goto Deerwood and re-sort based on score. Only 3 players per card and play 18 holes from the shorts.

18+18+27+18 = 81 holes

Maybe...if time allows...then take the top 6 players in each flight and goto Hickory Hills for a final nine.

I am thinking something like $25 per player and everyone gets a T-shirt. Trophies and Merch for top 1/3 in each flight.

90 Holes in One Day...are you tough enough?

The fundamental issue is dealing with Ghostown.

What if we "launch" the cards on two different courses ( Tourist and Ghostown ) and then they trade places. Half the field starts on Tourist then goes to Ghostown...the other half starts at Ghostown and then goes to Tourist.

Once we get to Exchange the issues goes away...

Requiring pre-registration will allow us to sort the field into two starting pools.

...thinking...

only 45 players

Postby Golfguy » Tue May 25, 2010 2:47 pm

Given Ghostown is in the mix ... I think we should simply limit the field to 45 players. Doubt we will turn people away...but, please signup early. I will be at league on Mondays...or send me a message and we'll get you signed up.

$25 per player...NOT PDGA Sanctioned.

All players meet at TOURIST at 7am. Quick meeting...then 5 people per card play 18 holes at Tourist. Same cards goto Ghost Town and play 18 holes. All cards to go Exchange for a 30 min break and re-grouping into 3 fields by score. We'll put 3 players per card and play 27 holes. Then travel to Deerwood and re-sort by score. Play 18 holes from the short tees. If time permits...take the top 6 players from each Field and go to Hickory Hills for a Final 9.

An Ironman is more adventure than disc golf tournament. If you decide to play please come prepared. There is little time for waiting in drive-thrus or running to the store. Bring Food. Bring Water. And throwing of grass in the air will be limited to ONCE per shot...not three times!!!

Fireworks?

Postby Golfguy » Tue May 25, 2010 3:23 pm

Hey Locals,

Will we have issues with Fireworks? I think Waterloo uses the bridges...but, do other cities use any parks we need for July 3rd??

( A BIG issue back in the Quad Cities )

I did think about it...but, not sure how to sort the field prior to arrival. Also, with 45 we will pick up speed once we get to Exchange...only 3 players per card. I am think we will save some time by not regrouping for the first two courses...hoping folks can simply play Tourist then Ghost Town...both smaller less lost discs courses.

I think for this first year...we'll cap at 45 players and see how it goes.

I am a little worred about Deerwood parking, if someone is using the ball field...I wonder if we can reserve the field???

Starting at Tourist

Postby Golfguy » Fri Jun 04, 2010 1:41 pm

We are starting at TOURIST.

Yes, I finally pulled my head outta my ass ...  ... while creating directions for the outta town folks I realized the logical starting place is Tourist.

Here is a Google map for the Tournament with Driving Directions.
