IMO they should have a playoff if they are tied in all categories...The only way to be sure you are sending the best/right team through to the next round. They would have to move back the next round a day or so, so they can recover from the game of course.

I like the idea of a playoff, but the World Cup is a lot like the NFL Playoffs where there is a set structure and timeline for the order of events ...... a play-in game just doesn't work (which is probably why they are the only 2 major sports with a random draw as the last resort)

In the 3 American sports (MLB, NBA, NHL) where there is no timeline because they are best of playoffs this works ..... no events are set in stone so being pushed back a day or two is not a big deal.

You could do earliest goal in any of the 3 games. That would settle a huge percentage of the ties.

If still tied, bring the 2 teams out and do penalty kicks.

This is something I thought about too. It wouldnt take long. Probabaly not longer than 30 min once both teams got to the same stadium. Yeah there has to be another stat they can throw in there to break a tie. I dont like the idea of a coin flip deciding my fate. If I were a soccer player that is

Well that was a weak display...But Brazil and Portugal move on after the 0-0 draw. Brazil wins the group, and S. American teams are still undefeated in the Cup so far

All of these blown calls/non-calls are ridiculous. In the most important tournament in the most popular game in the world.

And not just the calls, but the absolute inability to do anything about it.

As an outsider (me), it makes it hard to take it seriously.

I only saw some of the first half of the Germany/England game. The action was incredible and there were 3 goals scored in just a matter of minutes. Of course only 2 of them counted. The announcers were just mocking FIFA for their lame excuses as to why they don't use instant replay. I'd be surprised if we see another world cup without it. Flopping on the other hand is here to stay.

 yeah this shit is annoying. Anyone see Ghana the last 30 minutes of the game falling over and crying when they werent even touched? I can see it happening from time to time to get a penalty...But this was out of hand. And waiting 5 to throw in a ball is also a joke. They def need goalline replay. Replay for anything else isnt needed right now, but goals should be reviewable

Except that they should replay red cards. That one against Brazil should've been rescinded and then the guy who flopped should've been suspended.

 Guys want to watch the most boring game ever? Turn on the Japan Paraguay game, they're in overtime, still 0-0. Might be the first game decided by penalty kicks this world cup
