Barnett Out, Who Fights Fedor?

Postby OU812_LukeS » Wed Jul 22, 2009 1:59 pm

Josh Barnett tested positive for a banned substance, so Affliction is looking for a replacement to fight Fedor.

Any volunteers to fight Fedor Emelianenko on 10 days' notice?

Brett Rogers is an intriguing prospect. The biggest criticism of Fedor (and a legitimate one IMO) is the level of his competition of late. Of his last two fights, Dana White said Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski were "...knocking each other out, left and right." Rogers is big (6'5) and mean and undefeated, he put Andrei down in 20 seconds. I think his size and reach advantage plus his brawler style could give Fedor problems early in the fight.

Anyway I always look forward to Fedor's fights...not exactly pumped up for Anderson Silva's meaningless fight with Forrest Griffin.

Silva/Griffin will be a big fight, but expect Silva to win. Griffin's experienced enough to go against Silva, I think.

Anyway, sounds like the time to switch Fedor over to UFC...

Before they folded, the talk was of Vitor Belfort, a middleweight. I'm glad they cancelled it altogether...hope Dana White's press conferences announces a new signee.

It's going to be next to impossible for the UFC and M-1 to do business. M-1 wants their brand attached to anything Fedor does, and that shit won't fly with the UFC.

There's a slim chance we could see one to three Fedor fights in the UFC. But I seriously doubt it. The Russians are crazy.

I have a hard time seeing it happen, after reading about their nutty terms. Building a stadium in Russia? Huh? The average American MMA fan doesn't even know who Fedor is.

He'll be fighting Brett Rogers and Alistair Overeem in Strikeforce. But once those fights are over, who knows. Not much left out there for him.

He'll probably get Barnett in Japan, maybe on NYE.

That's what I'm thinking too. It's the one fight that everyone wants to see right now, and since both fighters are huge in Japan, it's a win/win for anyone involved. I'll buy it, that's for sure. :)

And don't forget that steroids are legal there too.

Its to bad they couldn't get a ufc deal done, I would love to see the calm and collected Fedor casually choke out that ass Lesnar.
Is this the line for the beer, or the line for the coupons for the beer?

Me too. I doubt that would happen though.

M-1 is crazy if they think the UFC is going to share half their profits just because they have one guy on the card.

The real loss is Gegard Mousasi. He's the guy to beat Anderson Silva.

Silva's habit of mocking his opponents during the fight is every bit as annoying as Lesnar's "sore winner" syndrome.

It would be nice to see Fedor in the UFC, but he probably watched the Mir fight and thought "Yeah maybe I'm not in such a hurry to fight that thing after all."

It's kind of annoying, but to me it just seems he's bored in there. It's a lot like Roy Jones Jr....just trying to entertain...that's what they are there for.

But damn, he made Forrest look silly.

Silly is an understatement. Looks like Silva is moving up to LHW permanently now according to the post ppv articles. Too bad he won't fight Machida...cause that would be one hell of a fight.

And how about Miguel Torres getting KTFO last night? Talk about a surprise.
