Historic Weekend for MMA

Postby Like_Water » Wed Jul 16, 2008 12:27 pm

Well, July 19th is going to be an epic weekend for MMA.

Affliction is hosting a card (with Donald Trump's help) with the top Heavyweights in the game. Available on PPV.

Bouts Scheduled to Air on Pay-Per-View:
-Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia (Militech) this will be worth $40 alone
-Josh Barnett vs. Pedro Rizzo
-Andre Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell (Militech)
-Matt Lindland vs. Fabio Negao
-Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Mike Whitehead

Bouts Scheduled to Air on Fox Sports Net:
-Aleksander Emelianenko vs. Paul Buentello
-Vitor Belfort vs. Terry Martin

Preliminary Bouts: (free on the internet I think)
-Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Edwin Dewees
-Trenell "Savant" Young vs. Mark Hominick
-Justin Levens vs. Patrick Speight
-Mike Pyle vs. J.J. Ambrose

At the same time the UFC is showing the top P4P figther, Anderson Silva for free on Spike TV, along with a host of other fights.

It's a great time to be a fan of MMA. :D

Me too...I am ready to see Sylvia get his ass handed to him.

My picks for affliction...

Fedor
Barnett
Arlovski
Lindland
Babalu
Aleksandeer
Vitor

I'll take some of that action....There's going to be at least one upset, and I'm not talking Sylvia because, as prone as he is to arm bars, he's got a great shot of taking down Fedor. (though Fedor is the favorite)

I hope Lindland loses and I hope Vitor looks like the old Vitor.

I'm considering placing a $50 bet on Tim Sylia over Fedor...at +300, I think it's a pretty good value.

I'm not a gambler but for some reason MMA makes me want to gamble. And it's probably the worst sport for it since anything can happen.

Nah, this is a fresh upstart promotion....they are still doing it "for the good of the sport"....that shit doesn't happen until orgs are well established and "credible".

I am pretty bummed that my better judgment won't let me order the Affliction fights tomorrow. I have to be up at 6:30 am on Sunday to get stuff ready for the Fat Tire tournament and if I get the fights there is no way in hell I could ever be in bed before 1:30 or 2:00.

not necessarily - Evan and I will be heading back from Chicago in hurry to watch the fights somewhere - let us know if you change your mind. We don't need you rested up anyway, you can nap between 10 and Noon. :D

I got it.

Glad I didn't bet any monies...

Fedor and Silva show why they are the best P4P fighters on the planet. I'd love to see these two meet at 205.

I got to see it, well sorta. I went to a bar and saw all the fights expect the Tim Sylvia and Fedor E. fight. The satelite went out. But we heard quickly that Sylvia got chocked out after 36 seconds. the A. Silva fight was awesome!
