Have 7 of 12 pad frames set and dug all but #7 pin holes on 3/15. The conditions should be favorable in 2 to 3 weeks for hauling materials up into the woods. Should have the signs and message board ready by then. If the hill continues to drain and dry up like it has so far we could start building the walls for #2 and #8 before early April. So far still on target for early May opening.

Work update

Postby hyzerman16234 » Mon Mar 26, 2007 8:26 am

All the pins are now set and drying. The materials we have is all distributed at the holes. Next weekend all the signs will be in and will do as much pad work as possible. Will focus on #2 tee area and #8 tee first. In the mean time have begun trail trimming and clean up on the other 9. Have the first 3 trimmed, just need to drag brush and make piles. That will leave trimming on the next 4 holes since the last 2 are open. Should be ready to play as an 18 hole layout in early May, (if we set up 9 temps). Have #12 plotted at over 500ft in the long setting.

Mar 30 thru April 1st

Postby hyzerman16234 » Sun Apr 01, 2007 6:34 pm

We now have #2 and #8 pads built up and leveled. They look great! Also cleared the rest of the holes for the 2nd 9 and they will be a lot of fun. Will have 18 to 20 set up in early May for our inaugural. The 2nd 9 will be temps so if anyone wants to see what they are like you'll have to be there that weekend. With that said what we have left is installing the signs and finishing the pads. I can't thank Kelly, Bitchen, Craig and Bob enough for the help they've given. I'm not sure i'd be in any shape to play the opener without them.

Cat out of the bag

Thank you. It is located 2.5 miles south of Urbana which is about 16 miles North of Cedar Rapids on 380. Take the exit and go left to Union Ave then left 2.5 miles south to 57th st trail. Take the right and its about a mile or so in all the way in the back. The whole thing was done as a memorial to Rick Huthchins who we lost last fall. It's in a little earlier than planned but we had a very productive last week end and since the pads are block instead of poured we were ready on the 14th. It's a very unique course and we hope everyone enjoys it.

If you are planning to come up this weekend bring plenty of bug spray the skeeters are getting bad when there is no breeze , also the course is starting to fill in . If you get poison ivy easy I would bring jeans and long sleeves.

Cut up steel for 3 baskets today. Need 540 ft of stock for the rest and we will have another 9 in production. Lots of work to do. Should have them ready for next spring.

Installed more steps this week and cleared stumps on 5, 6 & 7. Those 3 holes only have a few left. Put tree killer on the stumps on 2 thru 4. I'll give them time to die and then cut them off. I'm also spraying any poison ivy I see. Theres not a lot of it but what there is has to go.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been meaning to get out there to your area to see the courses. We've put in a lot of work and have 9 to go. If the weathers good the 3rd week of september then we will have 18 set up. It will be a preview of the full layout.

The back 9

Postby hyzerman16234 » Mon Jul 23, 2007 4:40 pm

Will be talking to John this week to tell him our plans for the back 9 and make sure he's OK with everything. If he gives the go ahead we will plan for pads and pins to be in by the September camp out. We will use temps in the sleeves if we can get them in by then. The permanent baskets will take a lot longer.
