Post questions and comments to Justin McLuen the Iowa State Coordinator

Here are some things I have been thinking about:

- a more robust process to determine the PDGA schedule.
- what defines a great tournament?
- new course support team ( share resources and documents )
- some kind of tournament rating system

...only thinking...

From a TD perspective...the current method sucks. I have read some ideas on IowaDG that sound much better. I have no agenda...so, I would have the Iowa PDGA TDs conduct a brainstorming session, a review session and a decision meeting. We would develop a new process together. ( No Iron Fist Here ) The meeting will be face to face and I can setup WebEx sessions for those unable to travel...just need an internet connection.

What makes a great tournament? There is an interesting thread here on that topic. I would interview some and survey all Iowa PDGA players to gather the data that defines what make a great tournament. Then I would help newer TDs learn these attributes and apply them. Something like tour standards plus.

As I work on new courses I always ask for help...but don't get much. Funny people think they will upset you...whatever. I have a very open process...but, you do have to show up. So, what if we had a team of experienced designers willing to help with new courses? I could use them NOW!! We could have database with presentation material and budgets. I have to create them all the time...this way we could share the workload.

A tournament rating system could be used by the players to make choices. Should I go to KC or Peoria....humm. Word of mouth is fine...but, wouldn't it be nice to see some hard facts. Payout %, starting on time, how long untili the awards, and any players comments.

These are the things I am thinking about to promote disc golf and create a more "Professional" Professional Disc Golf Association.

( funny...I just wanted a State Coordinator that RETURNED phone calls. )

How about an annual Iowa PDGA TD Meeting?

We could have some fun and have it at a casino or something. I remember my Dad going to convensions when I was kid...it was awesome just going to the pool!

...thinking we could get together at the end of the year to celebrate, award, recognize outstanding efforts and plan for next year. Something like a weekend away in the fall to connect. Bring the family and make a vacation out of it.

Maybe a club could "host" each year?

5 years ago we went into business. I had run 2 events before that, neither sanctioned. Tim was TD at our first event, and has been part of almost all tourneys we have run since, walking me through the PDGA steps and helping me to get my feet submerged. In those 5 years I have nothing but good and thankful things to say.

I think Iowa itself is in the best position, with 2 worthy canidates. I wouldve preferred to see people promote themselves in the most positive way possible, which went away after one post. Thats pitiful.

My vote doesnt matter, as I live in Illinois, and I honestly do feel both canidates will do a great job.

I dont have the experiance with Clue that I do with Tim, so I know where I would be voting. Either way, I think Iowa wins. Good luck to both of you.

I cannot imagine Tim in an official capacity, TD for example, doing anything unfair or not according to rules. I question anyone who says otherwise.

Tim is a selfless contributor to golf and deserves support.

Tim, you are right, some of the issues I was referring to were probably 10 years ago and I'm sure you are a different person now. I probably am as well. The problem I had is that's all I knew of you. I haven't heard your name in 10 years until you popped up in Waterloo this last year. Again, I'm glad there's going to be some new blood in that area and I think it could use some extra energy and leadership.

Not to toot my own vuvuzela, but I was the original rigger of the USDGC Qualifier to give myself the best shot!

Even after this reminder I did not remember you were state coordinator. It sort of seems remotely familiar now. I certainly apologize for not giving credit where credit is due. I would also like to add that Rodney was in fact the former state distance record holder as well......for about 4 mins.

Tim, we have not heard your stance on the Iowa USDGC spot. I'd like to hear how you plan to handle that.

Being friends with both guys, I have to say I'm very excited to have such a quality race on our hands. I think both guys are more than capable of being SC, above and beyond anything we've seen in awhile. Both are passionate and active in the disc golf scene.

My only concern is this whole becoming toxic and setting us back instead of moving us forward. Both Clue and Tim being involved is a great thing. This should end up being double-great instead of half-as-good for Iowa Disc Golf.

Let's talk about issues and the men as they are today, not the behind the back he said she said stuff that happened 10 years ago. A spirited debate, campaign, vote of the people followed by the runner up congratulating the other is the only way this should go down. Iowa disc golf deserves nothing but respect, and it should come from the top.

...and I hope they are current PDGA members that can vote. 60 plus players at my last count. I think "they" have been doing a great job. :D

Your voting instructions will be coming in July to the email address that you have currently listed with the PDGA. Let's get the vote out!

Ok I have a couple questions actually to both of you. I dont know either one of you guys that well and would like to before I voted. I see your resume up and all but I dont really know the people. It sounds as though both of you are very interested and able bodied. It also sounds as both of you are spirited and dont shy away from conflict. I guess my question to both of you is how are you going to handle conflict with next years schedule? We all know that is going to cause some unrest. I would hope you have some plan or idea ready. The next quetion rolls right into the first one. Tim/Clue would you show favoritism to people or teams that you belong to or are affiliated with. This could be considered a conflict of intrest in some cases if not handled transparently and or fairly. To the rest of the readers please ask questions of these guys I am interested in what they have to say and truly you should be too.

I would do exactly has posted above:

...I also suggested an annual TD meeting.

Have you ever heard that expression? "It's all about the Bride." They say that about Weddings. That is what I meant by the highest quality tournament experience for the PLAYER. Clubs and TD are a required part of the equation and deserve respect...but, at the end of the day what matters mosts is the experience for the player.

I agree the current method for determining the Official PDGA calendar and all other events as well sucks...so, my solution is to gather ideas from the other TDs and active players to be used to create a better method or way of getting the job done.

Don't worry... Thanks to Martha Stewart... I am acutely aware of all issues regarding conflict of interest, insider trading, integrity, values and such due to the many hours of training per year now required to hold my professional engineering license. Not complaining it is all easy stuff...I am just sad we live in a society that these princples need to be mandated by law and not just a matter of personal pride.
