Ams playing Pro

Postby MillerGT 41638 » Thu Oct 01, 2009 4:33 pm

Hey TJ this is Garrett Miller from Ames and I had a question about Amateur/Intermediate play during tourneys. I am not a PDGA member but I am thinking about signing up soon and had heard that if an amateur player plays open pro and places or cashes out that they can no longer play intermediate or advanced after that and count toward their PDGA rating. Is this true? Thanks.

If you are an am, and you play pro and accept the cash (you can also accept merch in lieu of cash now)....if you take the cash you're no longer allowed to play Majors as an am.

You are still able to play pdga tournaments as an am if your player rating is below 970.

A- it would cost you 10 more dollars to enter the tournament, B- It wont have any affect on a non member because u dont have a rating. But you wont be allowed to play Majors or A-tiers while a non member

Also, if you accept cash, when you sign up/re-new your membership, you need to pay the Pro membership fee.

Not necessarily....I think if you are still under 970 rated, you can accept cash and still renew as an AM and pay the am membership fee.

All I know is that I accepted cash last year, signed up as an AM this year, no problems. My friend tried the same thing, but was 975? rated, and they wrote back to him that he needed to pony up the extra $25 as he was required to renew as a pro. They didn't write back to me.
