Disc golf tournament

Postby jest58 » Tue Jun 10, 2008 8:38 pm

The Creston Park Board want to have a disc golf tournament in McKINLEY Park in Creston Iowa, on Sept. 20th, 2008 during our ballon days event . Something like the Ice Bowl is what we are looking for. I have no ideas on how to run a tournament,
I need information, HELP. If this goes well we will do this every year.
HELP?
Thanks,

There are a couple things you need to decide. First is whether to sanction it with the pdga. There is some cost to it, but that will provide insurance for the tournament and give ratings for the course. It will also get you on the pdga calendar.

The second is how bad do you want to draw players. I know of two things that could compete against it that date. It's going to be competitive no matter what day you choose. Money will drive everything. These guys are going to Fairmont Minnesota because there's allegedly $1500 up there.

I would then suggest getting to a tournament whether you play or not just to see how the process works and talk to people, ask questions. It's a fun little course. I hope it goes well.

That is specifically why I didn't say that. I didn't want to give you the satisfaction.

If you want to see the behind-the-scenes 'action' of running a tournament, come over to Oskaloosa on the 28th and I can show you what goes on while running a tournament and what needs to be done for sanctioned tournaments. Just let me know.
