course conditions

Postby Hamer » Wed Oct 06, 2010 3:27 pm

The course has been mowed. It is good shape. The nettles are starting to go away. The grass on the sides of the fairways on holes 14 and 15 is very tall.

There is an 8 inch diameter and 40 foot tall tree down in the fairway of hole 8. If someone has a chainsaw, I can meet you out there and help remove it.

Course is great right now, mostly short other than 5 and 6 from what I played.

Both Red and Blue pads are clean thanks to Mike and Greg, Thanks guys!

Somebody had already cleaned up one set of pads before we got out there. Sorry we didn't have time to stay for doubles, thanks for asking though. Hope you guys had a fun round!

Course is in great shape right now. All holes are playable and dry other than 5 blue, that is playable but a big soggy if you throw short.

That's where I always throw from the blue pad. I can't seem to get away from the two trees that are 50 feet apart and 30 feet in front of the pad. Buy I always look forward to playing the blue pad there.

The city came out and pushed some sand around on 11 (more like eliminated a couple humps and downed trees in the fairway), 13, 14 Blue, and the path between 14 blue and 16's pins. They also pulled 16 Red away from the river, don't think my truck could handle that job again.

No sign of 13's B pin placement. I think it is just gone.

Here are some pics:

Hard to see much in them but the biggest changes IMO are a lot of sand from right in front of 14 Blue has been pushed on out into the fairway getting rid of the mountain in front of the tee pad, along with 16's Red pad moving away from the river. At this rate we should have at least a couple years before the river tries to claim another pad (not counting 5 blue).

Thanks Jeff for maintaining a good relationship with the City, it might take em a year or two but they are helping! Now to keep the course mowed all year and get rid of the hanging chunk of tree on 2...

That is extremely sad to see how much of a dump the back 9 has turned into...

dump?

It gets bad if they can't get the mowers in there in the summer, but right now it's in fine shape. No weeds, no bugs. Only problems are water on 5 blue and the lost 13 long pin. 16 has been improved by moving the pads, IMO.

Dump? It may not look like Ewing or Pickard, but I wouldn't call it a dump. It's just been given a manicure by mother nature, and now a touch-up by a back-hoe.

I was using the term "dump" in a visual way. It looks like a barren wasteland without any grass back there. In no way am I undermining any of your efforts to keep the course in good shape. Perhaps "dump" was the wrong word to use, I apologize.

Course is still in great shape. 5 blue has a pond on the fairway (dam outflow is up so that will stay most likely) but everything else is really nice. Grass is getting a little tall so hopefully we are on the City's radar soon.

Luke helped me move the baskets to A positions to keep it fresh, so get out there and play!

The interior holes 2 through 10 have been mowed.
The city did a good job of widening out some of the fairways.
There is a large tree down near the basket on hole 9.
The course is looking good.
You can only be offended if you want to be.

Sounds like a good time to get some work done. I think I will skip league tomorrow and play with a weed whacker instead. If anyone wants to join that would be swell.
