Here is the response I just got from USDGC.

The USDGC will definately return in 2011. It will be a handicap-based event open to a much broader group of people. Same course, Same experience. Lower entry fee.

Qualifying will also be handicap-based. The Piney Woods event will run as it normally would, then qualifiers will be determined based on their performance relative to their handicap or skill level. The handicaps will be based on PDGA ratings and enable all divisions, not just the pros, a fair chance to earn a spot.

It's confusing, I know. We are working on getting the information out there.

It's contradicting, I know. We are working on getting the information out there.

Can’t wait to see Nikko walking up 18 with a 850 rated golfer taking 15 throws to beat him.

Yeah, they should probably just hold a lottery and award spots based on that, then just play for fun.

Or something.

We could see a whole new level of sandbagging, pro sandbagging.

Based on the DGU standings from this year, I think Will still would have won.

i agree, Will would probably still win. i hope they call it something different. im sitting here wondering why i put in all the practice if it wasnt necessary? just handicap it and mediocrity is acceptable. Pusification personified.

How does handicapping mean mediocrity? Handicaps are a system developed so players of any skill level can compete fairly.
I'm sorry that the middle of my sentence interrupted the beginning of yours.
